Texas, Massachusetts Plaintiffs Join Zofran Lawsuits

Zofran, GlaxoSmithKline’s anti-nausea drug, has been associated with serious birth defects in babies when used during the first trimester of pregnancy to treat morning sickness. Lawsuits against the company continue to pile up – on April 17, a Massachusetts woman joined the fight against the pharmaceutical company after she was forced to terminate a pregnancy due to severe fetal defects associated with Zofran use.

Another lawsuit, this one out of east Texas, asserts that a Zofran prescription during the first trimester of pregnancy led to the development of several congenital abnormalities in a child, including a heart murmur, fluid on the brain, thickened arteries and several developmental delays.

Zofran has never been approved to treat morning sickness symptoms. Many of the lawsuits filed against the company assert that GSK was fully aware of the ability of Zofran to cross the placental barrier in pregnant women. Despite this knowledge, the company continued to promote Zofran as a safe and effective treatment for morning sickness.

If you took Zofran while pregnant and your child suffered from birth injuries such as musculoskeletal abnormalities, mouth deformities like cleft lip, jaundice or heart defects, then you could engage in litigation against GSK for its role in causing your and your child’s suffering.
