Can Medication Cause Poland Syndrome?

A mother is suing the pharmaceutical company Pfizer for birth injuries allegedly caused by the Zoloft she was prescribed during her pregnancy.

Zoloft is a known danger to newborns and many of the families that have had children born with defects have joined a multidistrict litigation, including the mother from this story.

She alleges that her doctor had told her that her medication would be safe during her pregnancy. However, her son was born with many defects, including Poland syndrome.

What is Poland Syndrome?

Poland syndrome is a rare birth defect, which involves missing or underdeveloped muscles in the chest, side and shoulder. Additionally, ribcage abnormalities, webbed fingers and missing fingers and bones have been known to occur.

Children born with Poland syndrome often require numerous expensive surgeries. In addition to this, constant medical care may be required. If a pharmaceutical company is at fault, then you should not have to pay a dime.

Many pharmaceutical companies and healthcare providers are under fire for negligent actions that have either killed newborns or caused birth injuries or birth defects that lead to tremendous pain and suffering, loss of enjoyment of life and emotional stress to both the victim and the entire family.
